Students in the Yuba College Associate Degree Nursing Program are responsible for adhering to the District's Policy and Procedure on Criminal Background Checks and Drug Screening. All criminal background check verifications are conducted by the Corporate Screening vendor.
The District contracts with several affiliating agencies (hospitals, clinics, schools) in Yuba City, Marysville, Woodland, and the surrounding areas to provide clinical coursework approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. All nursing applicants and current students must meet the health and safety standards for these clinical agencies at all times. Therefore, students are required to undergo criminal background checks and drug screenings prior to being placed at facilities for clinical experiences. All decisions regarding background checks and drug screenings are determined by the individual clinical agencies in accordance with their rules and/or regulations. Any criminal alert on a student’s background check report will disqualify them from entering the program.
Additionally, in accordance with the California Board of Registered Nursing regulations, a person convicted of certain offenses may not qualify to be licensed as a registered nurse. If there are any questions regarding this requirement, please contact the State Board of Registered Nursing, or visit their website at www.rn.ca.gov . Prospective nursing students are strongly urged to consider this requirement prior to investing substantial time in a nursing program if it appears that past criminal acts or convictions may jeopardize a student’s eligibility for licensure in the practice of nursing.
